Tolpuddle Chardonnay
Located about 20 minutes drive from Hobart, in Tasmania’s southeast, the Coal River Valley has established a reputation for growing exceptional quality grapes. In 2006, the Tolpuddle Vineyard won the inaugural Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year award, reflecting the performance of this unique and distinguished site. Under the current owners, Martin Shaw and Michael Hill – Smith, there is a firm commitment to respecting the site, and seeing it become one of Australia’s great vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard was called Tolpuddle and it took its name from the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The soil is light silica over sandstone, and of moderate vigour, ensuring well-balanced vines.
