Tűzkő’s history is directly connected to the Apponyi family who once owned the estate. The Apponyi family (of French origin) established in the region in the 17th century when they purchased the large Hőgyész estate and various smaller, contiguous properties in Tolna. On the ground floor of the estate mansion there is a press house for winemaking. Among the various family properties, Tűzkő was characterized by its capability of producing quality wines.
