A deft but not invisible application of wood sets off the even earthier aromas of various dark berries, underbrush and hint of game. The middle weight flavors are not as dense, but they are, as is typical for Clos Prieur, quite fine with good delineation on the solid complex, long and balanced finale. This youthfully austere effort should amply repay up to a decade of cellaring. Burghound 91-93
